Just adding this to show that I can do "marsh" scenes, too. I had a few
requests for more local art - this one was done several years ago, a custom
painting for a favorite customer.

I happened to be near Manteo when I sketched this boat.

This was a favorite scene on the beach in St. Martin near Orient Beach. This little red boat withstood all kinds of weather (and I never saw anybody take it for a ride!) The stormy sky appeared at Mullet Bay, but I decided to use my artistic license and place it behind this boat.

I just painted this after visiting the Kentucky Derby Museum in Louisville, where I attended a business meeting. This place is fantastic. For only $40 one can attend, roam the back lots where all the owners, trainers, and jockeys are - or view from the infield where all the crazy crowds go. The museum is fantastic! One can get on a mechanical horse and "reality race", watch videos of lots of famous winners over the years, etc. I didn't know that Sea Biscuit and Man 'O War never raced in the Derby!!!This was my first semi-attempt to paint something a little abstract. What fun!

While in St. Martin in 2010, I photographed a young girl getting ready to "test the waters". She was eyeing an oncoming storm and trying to decide whether to jump in. I painted this a year later after Wrightsville Beach had ther Wahini surfer contest - just got inspired by those energetic girls riding the waves! Looks like such fun!!

This is a very colorful barn beside the New River Bike trail out of Galax, Virginia where we go biking each October. Beautiful, level pathway alongside the river!!!

This is a funny little "observation" dock in Cashiers, NC at the High Hampton Inn. It overlooks the lake - and the fall season is beautiful up there.

This is also from my workshop with Qiang Huang and was my first attempt at painting copper. Very challenging~ But I was pleased with the effort.

I just attended a wonderful workshop with Qiang Huang (Chong Wong) from Texas and did three still lifes that I am really happy with. I changed this vase in the set-up (which was a pale yellow) to a nice blue and white vase and liked it a lot better. Great workshop! He is one of the best 'still life' painters around.

This is my newest for entry into a local art benefit show. This is a side view of Orton Plantation in Bruswick County - a beautiful waterfront property owned privately for many years by a local family. I was intrigued by the spreading tree over the shaded path.

T his is my Christmas painting I did today. Maybe there was eggnog in this beautiful silver cup??? Had a lot of fun painting silver - all the lovely reflections. I may try another one tomorrow with Christmas ornaments involved!
